Too Much Grace?

“If someone misinterprets your message to incite licentiousness, that’s a sign that you are preaching it rightly.” See here.

Some years ago a brother said to me that he must be living a godly life. WhenI asked how he knew that he replied - “Because I’m being persecuted”. A reference to the verse - 2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. The reverse reasoning is not necesarily true. A godly person can expect to be persecuted, but some one being ‘persecuted’is not necesarily godly. He may just be rude and offensive. Martyn Lloyd-Jones statement that plain gospel preaching will always hear from those who do not understand the un-merited act of devine love that purchased eternal salvation is true. However, to then say that because I am accused of being licentiousness in my preaching of God’s grace that I must be preaching it right is as dangerous as the illustration above. The only true measure of our doctrine and preaching is ever the Word of the Living God. Keep preaching the free Grace of God in Christ. But do not fall for the licentious living of graceless modern theology.
Bro bobby.

The only free-thinker is a Biblical Thinker.

Thanks for the comment. You make a good point and I appreciate the counter warning. I guess the key in this is that those who view our preaching of grace as license to sin must be MIS-interpreting and MIS-understanding what we are preaching. A right understanding of God’s grace always leads to holy living.

“some people might misunderstand it and misinterpret it to mean…that because you are saved by grace alone it does not matter at all what you do.” -Lloyd-Jones

For sure Brother. Just an observation on my first ever post. WooHoo.
Bro Bobby
