I agree that you should be a part of a local church, but on what do you base the assertion that you need to “formally” join a church? Where does the Bible tell us how to join a church? I don’t recall any membership ceremonies in the NT.
Did you read the article? I personally think the two reasons he gave are quite reasonable, and some of the strongest reasons for a formal church membership model.
