On death and internet posts

The tragic passing of one of our forum members at GMT reminded me today about something I wrote years ago in The Cyber-Phenomenon. Have you ever gone back and read a post from a few months ago and thought ?what was I thinking!?!? If you have, just think of what you?ll say when you read your [...]

Forum Guidelines

The purpose of givemetruth.net, an interactive Fundamentalist community, is to develop a network of edifying relationships, to nurture a sincere pursuit of and love for the truth, and to cultivate an environment in which believers can be conformed to the image of Christ for the glory of God.

To understand our philosophy, read our purpose statement.

The GMT Leadership Team

Farid Wardan, founder and head admin of Givemetruth.net, heads up a broad team of admin and moderators. The GMT leadership team is committed to the purpose of GMT and is here to be a blessing to you. It is important to understand that GMT is not a democracy; however it is the goal of our leadership team to be fair and kind in our actions. The leadership team has complete authority to enforce the guidelines of these forums consistent with the purpose of GMT.

General Guidelines

Focus on edification and fellowship

We expect our members to treat each other in a Christ-like manner. This means members should interact with a spirit of kindness and love. Our purpose is to encourage and build up, not to debate, argue, or create contention. We are a community and communities thrive on interaction. We encourage all our members to get involved at Givemetruth.net!

Compliance with moderator requests

Admins and moderators are authorised to moderate anywhere on the forums. We want to function as a team and we intend to make your stay here as enjoyable and beneficial as possible. Our main purpose is to serve you, to answer your questions, and to help you get around on the forums. We want GMT forums to run smoothly and to be a blessing so we request that members comply with our guidelines and with any specific requests we may make to you in public or in private on the forums.

When problems arise, we take feedback seriously and do everything in our power to resolve issues that are brought to us privately. When browsing a forum please look for "forum led by" messages which indicate the moderator(s) for that particular forum. Members that are responsible for an individual forum can moderate there and you are responsible for complying with their requests just as you are with the requests of admin and global moderators elsewhere on the forums.

Treatment of fellow members

In our discussions on the forums it is inevitable that disagreements and debates will arise. While discussing our beliefs isn't the main focus of these forums, we do encourage such interaction and welcome any topic that can be discussed with the right spirit and without contention. When discussing issues that get heated, please refrain from personal criticism and restrict comments to the beliefs and views stated. On GMT, personal attacks are simply not tolerated. Before contributing to a controversial topic, please check your motives. We are serious about making GMT a place where believers are edified.

Many of our members know each other in person and occasionally someone will bring personal problems to the forums. This will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with a fellow Christian, we request that you resolve it privately according to biblical principles.

Specific Guidelines

Following are several offenses which will usually result in immediate suspension of your account:

  • Direct attacks against God and the Bible. (Our members must profess to be believers.)
  • Spamming the forums.
  • Creating multiple accounts.
  • Harvesting addresses for unsolicited email to our members.

Other unacceptable behaviour:

  • Personal attacks in public or in private.
  • Using an inflammatory signature/avatar/photo. (Ie: to voice your opinion on a recently closed topic.)
  • Voicing complaints about GMT in a public topic/post. (Feel free to contact any of the leadership team privately to resolve problems or disagreements.)
  • Publicly challenging admin/moderator decisions.
  • Refusing to co-operate with admin/moderator instructions.
  • Using crude, profane, and offensive language in forums or in personal messages.
  • Posting unnecessarily explicit or provocative language/content/links. (Admin/moderators are authorised to make judgment calls regarding what is inappropriate.)

Things to Keep in Mind

Read the guidelines for individual forums

This is very helpful to get an idea of the purpose of each forum. Some forums have their own instructions. Read them!

Report offensive posts

Please report any offensive content or anything that goes against our guidelines. Leave the moderating to those assigned that task.

Protect your privacy

Though your name and contact details are required for our leadership team, it is wise to protect your email and contact details. In order to protect your privacy, only give your personal details to close friends.
