Psalm 139:7-10
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
What struck me about this passage is it will inflict either terror or comfort. If you are rebelling against the Lord and you are living life your own way on your own terms not caring about the Lord there is terror in knowing that on your appointed day when you meet your maker there is no place to run or to hide; He is everywhere and you will be found and you will be held accountable. Even in the last days people with their hardened hearts rather than turning to God would rather foolishly try to hide wanting the rocks to cover them; Knowing completely that it is futile.
On the other hand: If your loved one has died, God is there. If you are all alone, God is there. When everything is going wrong and nothing is going according to plan, God is there. In the deepest pits of depression He is there. In the lofty skies of bliss He is there and in all the countries of the world He is there and you are not alone. He is everywhere and you are in His nurturing hand. For them that love the Lord this passage is a source of comfort. You can never leave His presence and no matter where you go He is there. Even in the deepest pits of sin if you but cry “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” He will reply "I am willing".
His mighty hand holds us and protects us and who can pull us out of His grasp? Praise the Lord! He is God and He shall never leave nor forsake us.
Hope this encouraged you all as it did me. I would also recommend reading this article on GMT's InFocus:
