Recently I was meditating on Proverbs 2:1-6 and found some beautiful instructions from the Lord as to how we can receive godly wisdom. I hope these three points will be a blessing to you:

1. Immerse yourself in the Word of God
“My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;” Proverbs 2:1
Firstly we are called to receive the Word of God. This is deeper than just reading our Bibles, but it’s allowing God’s word to work in our hearts and accepting His instruction, guidance and reproof. This is the basic requirement in receiving God’s wisdom. How can one expect to become wise through Christ if he isn’t willing to receive and take heed to His holy words of wisdom? We are also to hide God’s commands within us, as treasures that we never want to let go of. The Psalmist in Psalm 119:11 says “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”.

2. Incline unto God through prayer
“So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;” Proverbs 2:2-3
To cry after something echoes the voice of desperation - it is to plead and desire something so gravely and desperately. It shows that a person understands his need for God’s wisdom – for without it we lean on our own understanding and miss out on knowing God's perfect plan for our lives.

3. Invest in the search for God’s treasures
“If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;” Proverbs 2:4
Too often we pour our energy, our lives into the seeking and searching for a great career, spouse, home etc. Why when we know that these are all temporal things? If we were convinced that God’s wisdom is the key to knowing how to worship and fear Him; that it will serve to protect and guide us; that it will help us make godly choices and glorify our King; Then surely we would spend more of our time and energy in pursuing godly wisdom and not those things that will fade away some day.

I love how verses 5 & 6 teach us the result of such a pursuit for godly wisdom:
“Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2: 5-6

Praise the Lord for His promise to grant us godly wisdom – if only we would ask…..
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” James 1:5

God bless u
Linda :)
