It seems to me very petty to ruin good for some when there is no benefit to anyone involved. I couldn't care who the discount was for, the same judgement would apply. This parking lot was obviously trying to help out the members of this local JW congregation and got abused by some petty jealous atheist.

Tetrapod Footprint Discovery Busts Evolutionary Paradigm, Says Biochemist

Over here we see yet another interesting shift in evolutionary theory.

Quote

Paleontologists from Poland and Sweden discovered dozens of 397-million-year-old fossil footprints in the Holy Cross Mountains of southeastern Poland, as revealed in the January 7 issue of the journal Nature. The prints were made by tetrapods, which are vertebrate animals with four limbs.

I don't expect this to be a evolution killer but it does show that once again the theory is unreliable. Of course I understand this is how science works, you propose something and if it is proven wrong you modify it till it works. That's the problem, it ain't solid it ain't reliable and will with time be blown out of the water.

Evangelical Influence Growing in United Methodist Church

I was reading this article a little earlier and could not help but rejoice. Seeing denominations turn back to Biblical truths is always a moment of rejoicing. It's easy to develop a kind of Catholic mentality believing that your church, or your movement is the one true church and then view everyone else in an inferior light.

We see in the midst of the Methodists potential for revival, and with 8 million members let's pray that it happens to the glory of God!

Joel Osteen Prays for Houston's First Openly Gay Mayor

I find it sobering to see the actions of some in the name of Christ. This article here outlines the lack of a firm stand for Biblical truth by Pastor Osteen.

I realize that no one wishes to offend people. It can even be for a good reason, you want to be able to minister to a person and draw them to Christ so you want to be careful not to scare them away. This is a man centric approach to the gospel and does not glorify God. Christ Himself wasn't afraid of giving people hard truths, look at John 6. He even warned people of the path ahead of them if they chose to follow Him (Matthew 8). We don't want false converts and we don't want people having a false assurance. The gospel is offensive to those who do not believe, nothing you can do about it but faith comes through the word so we need to preach it diligently.

At the very least people respect someone who stands up for what they believe, rather than try and squirm their way out of it. Just compare Pastor Osteen, and Pastor MacArthur and see who has a more admirable defense of the gospel of Christ.

Malaysian Government Appeals Use of Allah by Non Muslims

In this article here over at Christian Post highlights a problem that Malaysia's non Muslim minority face in trying to talk about God.

It's sad to see the state of affairs there in Malaysia. The argument that the Malaysian government is using against non Muslims (and primarily Christians) using the "Allah" to refer to God is that the word is purely Islamic, it would offend Muslims if others used the word and it may "confuse" people into converting to that religion.

To tackle these objections one at a time:

The word "Allah" predates Islam. You will find people named Abdullah before Mohammed came along, his own father was named as such. The name means "Slave of Allah". Even today in countries where Islamic and Christian communities exist with each other, you will see the word Allah used by both. Countries like Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq and Indonesia. It's only purely associated with Islam outside of the Arab world, and done so primarily in Western countries.

While its use by non Muslims will no doubt offend some, I do point back to these other countries where this issue is not even a debate. The offense of some should not restrict the freedom of many. I am certainly offended when one uses God's name in vain, but it's another step to introduce laws to restrict the use of "God" to only Christians.

This is a facetious argument. Imagine this scenario if you will in a Christian context. A person grows up as a IFB and just happens to have a Jehovah's Witness comes knocking on his door. He sees the man talk about "God" and despite the fact the man says Jesus isn't God, salvation is through works and Paradise is all we can hope for if we are good enough gets "tricked" into conversion purely over the fact he used the word "God". They're grasping straws and it wouldn't be a valid argument.

This is a serious issue. In '09, 15,000 Bibles were confiscated simply because they referred to God as "Allah". Once the restriction of rights begins, it rarely cedes so please pray for the Christian Malaysians. Pray that God works in the hearts of the government officials, sway them to overturn this decision. If God worked in the heart of King Cyrus, surely he can change the hearts of these men!

True Love

http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/6470064/couple-married-61-years-dies-day-apart/

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2009/11/after-61-years-of-marriage-couple-is-apart-in-death----for-only-one-day/1

I thought this was so sweet! These days it's difficult to even find a couple under the age of forty who is married, despite the multiple partners they have and had. And if they are married, it's usually for the second or third time. How sad that something so sacred as true love - Christlike love - has lost it's meaning in our world today. It's encouraging to see the way God intended love to happen between two people can and does actually work...

Ok, this was a random post and probably in the wrong forum, but I thought it was worth sharing the miracle and celebration of two people united for 61 years and inseparable "until death do we part..." as God intended marriage to be! What a refreshed and beautiful picture of Christ and his church!
